CMS Touch

CMS Touch has been designed to run on a touch screen. There are many types of touch screens around today from mobile phones through to large information stations. Software needs to be carefully designed for different types of hardware and one of the issues we were faced with when designing CMS Touch was whether to design the software for a small portable device such as a phone or larger device that could be either portable or placed in a fixed location.

We decided the best solution was to have a touch screen designed to be placed on a work top or fixed to the wall. This serves several advantages:

  • The Touch Screen is easily accessible by staff.
  • The screen can be linked to an external keyboard or other peripheral if required.
  • The screen is mains powered so there is no concern over charging batteries.
  • The screen size makes for clearer presentation of data and is more receptive to user touch.
  • The machines tend to be more powerful and robust than their handheld counterparts.

This opens the floor to further questions about how and why CMS Touch was designed and we have tried to answer these below:

1. Why was CMS not designed to run from a small portable device such as a phone?

We spoke to several care homes when we were designing CMS Touch and whilst we talked about the possibility of designing a system to run on a small portable device such as a phone, there were a number of potential issues. These included:

  • The device was dependant on a battery and the battery would need to be charged at regular intervals.
  • Smaller devices are more prone to theft.
  • Portable devices are more prone to being dropped or damaged.
  • It is harder to read the screen and process information.

2. Can CMS Touch be run from a mobile device?

Yes CMS can be run from a tablet PC or a touch screen laptop.

3. What size screen do I need?

It is not the size of the screen that is important it is the resolution. CMS Touch has a minimum resolution of 1078 x 768. As a guide it is unlikely that you will find a touch screen smaller than 10" that will meet this need. We would recommend a screen size of 15".

4. Can you provide us with Touch screens?

Yes we can. We have teamed up with a company that specialises in Touch Screen Terminals (a touch screen and a computer all in one). The fact that they specialise in this equipment means that they are able to offer a product which has less than a 1% failure rate in its first three years. This incredible statistic coupled with the fact that they provide 3 years on-site warranty means that this product is second to none in the market today for reliability.
