Spotlight on: Staff Training

How do you currently monitor when your staff training is due to be renewed? Diary? Spreadsheet? Do you ever find staff members' training has expired?  

Within the Employee module of CMS, you can keep a record of EVERY staff member's individual training records, including when each one is due for renewal. When training is due the system will give you reminders and notifications on your Shift Handover screen, as well as in other areas. You can even highlight certain training courses as compulsory ensuring the top level of employee knowledge in your own areas of importance. 

The system also provides many training reports and the all-important Training Matrix. If CQC requests to see which staff have had which training you can produce this information at the touch of a button. If you want to plan your training for the year ahead there is a report to show you when each staff member's training is due to expire making the planning process a lot simpler.  

The staff training section even allows you to note on your rota whether staff will be absent for a day's training, highlighting shifts needed to be covered by another team member.

Care Providers have your say on a national recruitment campaign in adult social care

Skills for Care is asking for feedback from across adult social care, to explore how a national recruitment campaign might work for the sector. 

They’re running an open scoping study to explore how a national recruitment campaign could help the sector attract the right people to take up adult social care roles, and want to hear from as many people as possible who are willing to share their knowledge and experiences.

The sector faces ongoing challenges to recruit and retain enough staff with the right skills and values, and Skills for Care analysis of the NMDS-SC suggests that vacancy and turnover rates remain high as the demand for services grows. Skills for Care estimates that there were around 345,000 people leaving their jobs every year – that’s over 900 every day – and approximately 90,000 vacancies at any one time.

The study is a response to the growing demand for social care services and the challenges associated with finding enough high quality people to work in them.

Skills for Care’s created a short online survey, that should take 10-20 minutes to complete and can be done individually or as a team. It’s open until Thursday 01 February 2018.

They want respondents to share their views and experiences about how to:

§         raise awareness and improve perceptions of the social care sector

§         help people understand whether a job in social care would be right for them

§         inspire people with the right values to want to work in adult social care

§         connect people, locally, to a vacancy, work experience or relevant training programme.

In the medium-term, it’s expected the campaign would provide an increased stream of quality applications to employers and education/ training providers, and in the long-term reduce vacancy and turnover, rates.

Happy New Year

Here it is: 2018! Another year has passed by and, as is customary, we like to sum up what we got up to over the 12 months, as well as what we have planned for the forthcoming year.

2017 was yet another year of growth for Ablyss CMS. Despite a lot of competition joining the Computerised Care Management market, we are still here leading the way. Ablyss CMS has been established and growing organically for many years and so our customers choose us for our knowledge, experience and stability, as well as our excellent service of course!

There were only a few changes within our HQ. Sarah officially handed over the reins of Sales Manager to Nikki who had done stirling work in her absence. Nikki was made for the roll so Sarah happily decided she should continue to "do her thing" on a permanent basis. We didn't loose Sarah though, she joined us to help with our online social media and marketing. We did welcome a new face in the shape of Bob, our new Sales Consultant. 

With enquiries coming in from all over the UK we needed to make some changes to our Sales team to enable us to reach more areas than ever before. Bob is located on the East coast, an area we have previously been unable to consistently cover. Bob joined us towards the end of the year but is already proving to be an important cog in the works with his years of Sales and life experience. So officially we welcome you to the team Bob.

As for 2018, we have lots planned. We will continue our workshops around the UK and also plan to bring our training seminar days to more people and to cover more topics. We are also going to exhibit at the Nursing and Dementia Care Home Expo later in the year. a new venture for us which will hopefully help us expand the ever growing CMS "family" even further.

Development will be the key for 2018 with our ace Development Manager Sally getting stuck in to ensure that CMS continues to be the perfect tool for the whole care sector.
